A Digital Soul action is greyed out
Lens shows no error code on screen for this message; E-ACTION-GREYED-OUT is this documentation's name for it. Quote it when you contact the Lens team.
What happened
A Digital Soul action button is greyed out, and clicking it does nothing. Sometimes every action in the panel is greyed out at once.
Likely cause
- One action is greyed out: its required selection is missing. An action that works on a selection stays disabled until you click the row or cell it needs.
- Every action is greyed out: What-if margins is probably active in the Path Budget Waterfall. While it is, all Digital Soul quick actions are locked, because the slack on screen is hypothetical and a card built on it would be stored as if it had been measured.
- Every action is greyed out while a query runs: all action buttons grey out until the result arrives.
- Compare actions are disabled: they need a base and a target run pair.
Fix
One action: hover over the button. Its tooltip says what to click first. Then click that row or cell.

In Scenario Analyzer, the selection-scoped actions stay disabled when the matrix has no evidence.
Every action, What-if margins: press Exit what-if (Reset). The reason on each locked button names the mode and tells you to press it.
Every action, query running: wait for the result, or press Stop to cancel the query. A cancelled query shows a Query Cancelled card and is not written to History.
Compare actions: set up a base and a target run pair in Lens Compare.
If that does not work
- What-if margins also ends when you switch clock or check, or close the Timing Explorer window.
- While What-if margins is active, its lock is the reason a button shows even when the action would also be unavailable for another reason. After you leave the mode, hover over the button again.
- Whenever the run changes (you switch scenario or stage, change build, tool flow or project, or clear results), Diagnose Selected Clock and Diagnose Selected Path Group are disabled until you select a fresh row.
- Timing Explorer actions are tied to the open Explorer window and to the project, build, run, scenario, clock and check they were selected in. Closing the window or changing any of those disables them until you select a fresh row.
